We have to make sure your mouth is healthy and the teeth and gums are healthy to have this done. Veneers are more expensive but last longer than composite bonding and they take a few appointments to do. Composite bonding is done in the surgery in one appointment and can do a similar thing to veneers. The dentist does it by hand and what is great is that you can walk away with the teeth that you wanted.
There are a few considerations with these cosmetic treatments. Firstly the health of the teeth and gums and the amount of sugar that you have in your diet. Then the way your teeth bite together is something that we look at to make sure the veneers or bonding can last. We then need to think of the colour of the teeth and which treatment is best for you and your budget.
All of this can be looked at with an appointment with the dentist.

Veneers FAQs
What is a veneer?
A veneer is a slim piece of porcelain that is made by our laboratory technicians that fits perfectly to your tooth to make the tooth look a different way. We can straighten it, make it a different colour, or just make it all look uniform to match the rest. We can use multiple veneers to change the whole of the smile if you wanted. We smoothe your tooth, usually taking about 0.7mm from the tooth to design where the veneer will fit and then we glue it to the tooth when it is ready from the lab.
How much do they cost?
Veneers cost around £520 each.
How do they change my teeth?
We can use veneers to match other teeth, change the straightness or colour of a tooth or disguise fillings within a tooth. We place a small piece of custom made porcelain to cover the outside of the tooth and glue it on. We can do one or multiple veneers to create the look you want.
How long do they last?
Like with many things, it does depend! Veneers rarely chip or snap. We usually say around 5 years. This is usually because they just start to look a bit old and people usually like to lift the colour again. You cant whiten veneers like you can regular teeth as the bleach only works on tooth structure. If you have a high sugar diet, they might not last as long as you would like, as the sugar makes the tooth underneath unstable. We usually talk about having a plan of replacing them in 5-7 years.
Can I have whiter veneers?
You can choose whatever colour you like for veneers. You can change what your smile looks like with veneers and we can brighten up the rest of the teeth to match them.
What is the difference between veneers and composite bonding?
Veneers are slim pieces of porcelain custom made in a laboratory just for you, that we place over the teeth. They take about 10 days to make. Composite bonding is where the dentist can change the shape or size of the tooth to look a bit like a veneer in the surgery within an appointment. Bonding is cheaper, but often needs to be replaced a bit more often – around 18-24 months.
